The 6th Annual Huntingburg Vol. Fire Dept. Sporting Clay Shoot will be held June2 at Cool Springs Education Center in Velpen.Rain date is June 3.First flight starts at 9 AM.Catered lunch is from 11:30-12:30.Second flight starts at 1 PM. The Dubois County Sportsmen’s Club will sponsor the Paul Klem memorial kids Fishing derby for kids 15 and younger on Saturday, June 2 at the Jasper Outdoor Recreation Center.Registration begins at 8 AM and runs through noon. Grab your friends, family, fishing pole, tackle and bait, and head over to Patoka Lake on Saturday, June 2nd from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30a.m. for the annual Kids’ Fishing Derby.Park at Osborn Ramp, off Highway 145, at 8:30 a.m. to register. This event is for children 12 years of age and under and they must be accompanied by an adult.Prizes will be awarded for the biggest fish, most fish caught, and more!The award ceremony will begin at 11 a.m.Bring your lawn chairs, sun screen and refreshments, and join in the fun!
Cast a line and catch a fish! Kids, ages 16 and under, are invited to participate in this free fishing derby on June 2 from 8-10 AM at Lake Monroe. Borrow our equipment or bring your own; bait will be provided. A prize drawing will be held at 10 a.m. for all participants! New and beginning anglers are welcome; instructors will be on hand to teach the basics and offer assistance. Please check in at the Paynetown SRA Fishing Pier (across from the swimming beach) by no later than 9:15 a.m.
If you love seeing wildlife, or just enjoy exploring, kayaking is for you! Kayaks let you reach backwater areas and quiet bays that aren't otherwise accessible; it's a wonderful way to experience Monroe Lake. This workshop is specifically designed for beginners with zero (or very little) paddling experience. We'll teach you all the basic skills and provide supervised paddling time in a quiet water area to practice. Kayaks, paddles, and lifejackets are all provided. Cost is $10 person; each session is limited to 8 people (ages 8+).Register by June 6 for the June 10, 10 AM event.You can register by June 20 for the June 24, 10 AM event.
There will be a 3-D Broken Arrow Archery shoot Sunday June 10 at Beaver Lake. Sign-in will be from sunrise till noon. A practice range will be available, and concessions will also be sold. The entry fee is $10 for members and $12 for non-members, $8 for children age 11-17, and free for the cub class (10 and younger) and active military members. Purdue Extension with Dubois County 4-H are hosting an ATV Hands On Opportunity for Youth called the ATV 101 Spark Club.This program will take place on Thursday, June 7,and Thursday, June 14 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM and Saturday, June 16 from 3-6 PM at the Duibois County 4-H Fairgrounds.Participants are required to attend all three days.Kids will have the opportunity to operate an ATV in a controlled environment and learn skills to utilize when riding.Any youth in grades 3-12 are welcome to participate.The youth will need to provide their own ATV that fits them.No ATV’s will be provided.The cost is Free for current 4-H members and $15 for all non 4-H members.All participants must register in advance.You can register by contacting the Purdue Extension Office by phone at 812-482-1782 or by emailing [email protected].The deadline to register is June 4.

Cruise around the lake by boat and car during this special program all about osprey from 10:00a.m. – 3:30p.m. on Saturday, June 23 at Patoka Lake.Osprey are a unique, migrating bird of prey that frequents our area during its breeding season before returning to South America for winter.Join in driving tours around the lake as well as boat cruises to view these birds up close.Hear from Allisyn Marie- Gillet, Indiana's Non-game Bird Biologist, who will share the history of the reintroduction program and the success of this species that is making a remarkable return to Indiana!Other topics include adaptations and flight.Cost is $15/person. Advanced registration is required and can be submitted by calling the Patoka Lake Nature Center at (812)685-2447. Lunch will be provided during this program at no additional cost.Dress for the weather and don’t forget to bring binoculars, spotting scopes, and cameras! Have vehicles fueled for the driving tour. This event is limited to the first 55 registered participants.
