Victor L. “Vic” Eckstein, age 84, of Jasper
Victor L. “Vic” Eckstein, age 84, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022, at home surrounded my family.
Vic was born in Jasper, Indiana, on October 21, 1937, to Victor R. and Lorena E. (Jaent) Eckstein. He married Elnore “Ellie” Shearrow on November 28, 1959, in Lady of Lords Catholic Church in Dobie Wisconsin.
Vic worked at Jasper Memorial Hospital where he was a laboratory technician. He was one of the first EMTs. He retired after 35 years of service.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the American Cancer Society- where he served as chairman on the Dubois County Leadership Council. He was an advocate chairman for the five-county area for the American Cancer Society and served as ambassador to Washington DC for ACS. He served as one of the four state captains for the National COPD Foundation. He was one of the founding members of the Broken Arrow Archery Club. He also volunteered at Jasper Memorial Hospital.
Vic enjoyed fishing, archery, and spending time with friends and family.
Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Ellie Eckstein, Jasper, IN, two daughters; Leslie (Jim) Buxton, Gentryville, IN, Suzanne Hart, Huntingburg, IN, one daughter-in-law; Kimberly Eckstein, Nasvhille, TN, one brother; Anthony “Tony” Eckstein, Jasper, IN, six grandchildren and one step granddaughter.
Preceding him in death is one son; Mark Eckstein and one grandson; Michael Louis Cissell.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Victor L. “Vic” Eckstein will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 2, 2022, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery mausoleum in Jasper.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
