Victor Crew, 80, of Loogootee

Victor Crew, 80, of Loogootee, passed away at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, May 1st, 2021 at Loogootee Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born September 8, 1940 in Paxton, Indiana to the late Seward B. and Frances (McCammon) Crew.

Vic married Mary Jane Norris on December 26, 1960 and she survives.

He worked for Larkin Brothers for 22 years as a manager. Vic went on to open his own clothing store, Vic’s Men and Boys Wear, that he owned and operated for 8 years.

Vic served as a past Loogootee Little League coach and Loogootee girls softball coach. He enjoyed crossword puzzles. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and donated to Catholic Charities Diocese of Evansville routinely.

Vic held various roles at the Martin County Courthouse. First, he was the Martin County Surveyor for two terms, then the Martin County Auditor for two terms, next he was the Martin County Clerk for a partial term of two years and lastly, he served on the Martin County Council for one term. Vic always said, “I worked for the people. I wasn’t a politician.”

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Edward Crew; parents, Seward B. and Frances Crew; siblings, Benny Crew, Sharon Simes and John Crew.

Vic is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Crew of Loogootee; children, Jeff (Micky) Crew of Shoals, Kathleen (Wade) Begeman of Greenwood and Paul (April) Crew of Loogootee; brothers, Ron (Karen) Crew of Washington and Pete Crew of Texas; grandchildren, Candace (Matt) Clark, Cassi (Corey) Mueth, Tyler Lanter, Katie (Randy) Taylor, Bethany (Kai) Tuomi and Derek Sipes; great-grandchildren, Audrey and Colton, Landon, Garrett, Vincent and Gracie; many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 4, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee and Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
