Thomas G. Newton, age 89, of Jasper

Thomas G. Newton, age 89, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 4:20 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, in St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper, Indiana. 

Tom was born in Lamar, Indiana, on February 13, 1933, to Thomas J. and Sadie (Conner) Newton.  He married Elizabeth “Betty” Lents on February 6, 1953. 

He was a 1951 graduate of Chrisney High School. 

He was a United States Army Veteran. 

Tom retired from Alcoa Aluminum where he had worked as an operator for 32 years. 

He was a member of the American Legion Post #147. 

He enjoyed hunting, riding his motorcycle, boating, and spending time with his family and friends. 

Surviving is his wife, Betty Newton, Jasper, IN, two children, Thomas C. (Sheila) Newton, Tell City, IN, and April (Kerry) Blessinger, Huntingburg, IN, seven grandchildren, Tiffany, Danielle, Alicia, Job, Wade, Evan, and Jamie, two great grandchildren, Marley and Kaya, and one sister, Buelah Fischer-Kinney, Jasper, IN. 

Preceding him in death are two children, Vienna Buchanan and Carol Yearby, two sisters, Helen Kline and Edith Egg, and two brothers, William “Bill” and Raymond “Gene” Newton. 

A funeral service for Thomas G. Newton will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, Indiana, with burial in Garden of Memory Cemetery in Gentryville.  Rev. Donald Ackerman will officiate.  The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military rites at the funeral home at the conclusion of the service. 

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper.
