Thelma Louise Copeland, age 95, of Petersburg

Thelma Louise Copeland, age 95, of Petersburg, formerly of Evansville, Indiana, passed away at 5:55 a.m., on Sunday, October 11, 2020, at Amber Manor Care Center in Petersburg.

She was born August 25, 1925, in Evansville, Indiana and was raised in Lynnville by her mother, Sarah Scott and her grandparents, Mae and Wilburn Scott.  She graduated from Lynnville High School in 1943.  She met John Copeland after graduation and they were married on September 12, 1945.  Their marriage was blessed with one child, Jane Elizabeth Copeland.

 Thelma worked as secretary for the President of Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance in Indianapolis for 27 years, until her retirement in 1986.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Indianapolis for 52 years.  After her retirement, Thelma and John moved back to Evansville where she was a member of the Old North United Methodist Church for 10 years.  They made many good friends in Indianapolis and many more after retiring to Evansville.  She was loved by her family and affectionately known to them as “Sissy”.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Copeland, who died on March 5, 2003; her daughter, Janie Cronin, who died on April 6, 2002; her mother, Sarah (and Merlin) Barrett; her son-in-law, Mike Cronin; her brother-in-law, Robert Weitkamp; and nephew, Christopher Weitkamp.

She is survived by two granddaughters, Kelly Mosley and Heather Cronin both of Indianapolis; two great-granddaughters, Lauren and Sophia Mosley of Indianapolis; one sister, Carolyn Weitkamp of Oakland City; two nieces, Michelle (Brad) McCain of Huntingburg and Melissa (Cliff) Claridge of Stendal; her “favorite” nephew, Robbie Weitkamp of Oakland City; four great-nephews, Tim (Erica) Rainey of Huntingburg, Tyler (Breanne) Rainey of Holland, Caleb McCain of Huntingburg and Quade Claridge of Stendal; one great-niece, Katelyn McCain of Huntingburg; five great-great-nieces and nephews, Addysen, Hadley, Remington, Canyon and Lakelyn Rainey; and many good friends.

Private funeral services for Thelma Louise Copeland will be held at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Lynnville Cemetery in Lynnville, Indiana. 

 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Lynnville Cemetery c/o Lynnville National Bank.
