Sylvester B. "Sylv" Erny, age 87 of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper, Indiana.
Sylvester was born in Jasper, Indiana on June 19, 1932 to Edward and Christina (Blessinger) Erny. He married Patricia Ann Goeppner on September 12, 1957 in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served in Germany, and was a member of the American Legion Post #147 in Jasper.
He retired from Erny Sheet Metal in Jasper after many years of service.
Sylvester was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper and the Jasper Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of Jasper Outdoor Recreation.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are his wife Patricia Erny of Jasper, four daughters, Cheryl Burke (Steve), Jasper, Janet Hopf (Terry), Huntingburg, Ann Messmer (Tim), Huntingburg, Amy Hopf (Chris), Jasper, two sons, Stan Erny (June), Huntingburg, and Roger Erny (Cheryl), Huntingburg, eighteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, three sisters, Margaret Eckerle (Donnie), Jasper, Betty Reynolds, Jasper and Mildred Erny of Jasper, and one brother, Harold Erny (Mildred) of Jasper.
Preceding him in death was one son Philip Erny, one granddaughter, Jillian Erny, one great grandson, Matthew Hardin, three sisters, Mary Alice Schuetter, Helen Hochgesang, and Anna Mae Reckelhoff, and three brothers, Robert Erny, Richard Erny, and Vincent Erny.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sylvester B. "Sylv" Erny will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2020 at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military graveside rites.
A visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, and from 9:00 a.m. until the 10 a.m. service time at the church on Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Precious Blood Catholic Church or a favorite charity.
