Shirley J. Eckert, age 80, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 11:32 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, in St. Vincent's Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
Shirley was born in Frederick County, Maryland, on April 17, 1930, to Norman and Goldie (Long) Smith. She married Daniel F. Eckert, on February 3, 1960, in Maryland. He preceded her in death on December 21, 2002.
Shirley was a United States Army Veteran.
She was a homemaker and member of Divine Mercy Parish - St. Anthony Catholic Church, and American Legion Post #147.
She enjoyed quilting, sewing, bird watching, and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are five children, D. Thomas Eckert, Huntingburg, IN, Sandra (Frank) Rickelman, Ferdinand, IN, Sharon (Darvin) Cannon, Huntingburg, IN, Doug Eckert and companion, Patsy, Huntingburg, IN, and Bryan (Tara) Eckert, Huntingburg, IN, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, eight sisters, Patsy Moser, Maryland, Norma (Dick) Vannoy, Virginia, Joy Musselman, Maryland, Carol Caniglia, Nebraska, Garnetta Masser, Maryland, Pam (John) Pencola, Maryland, Jan (Mike) Joy, Maryland, Cindy Davis, Maryland and two brothers, Michael "Chuckie" (Sharon) Smith, and Mark (Laura) Smith, both of Maryland..
Preceding her in death besides her husband is one brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley J. Eckert will be held at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, in St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Anthony, Indiana, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Masks and social distancing will be required. American Legion Post #147 will conduct military grave site rights.
A private family visitation will be held.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
