Ruth Katherine Schneider, age 99 years, of Huntingburg

Ruth Katherine Schneider, age 99 years, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 5:50 o’clock P.M., on October 24, 2019, at St. Charles Health Campus, Jasper, Indiana.  Ruth was born on July 30, 1920, in Hymera, Indiana, to Fredrick and Stella (Gard) Guest.  She married Norbert Schneider of Jasper, Indiana, on June 2, 1946.  He preceded her in death on November 27, 1976. 

Ruth graduated from Indiana State Teachers College in 1942, with a degree in secondary education and taught English and Literature at Hymera High School.  She was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during World War II.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, Huntingburg, the Huntingburg Study Club, a past member of the Huntingburg Public Library Board and past president of St. Joseph’ Hospital Auxiliary.  Ruth was preceded in death by her husband; one child, Timothy; her parents; and two brothers, Kenneth Guest and Ralph Guest.

She is survived by two daughters and four sons: Nanette (Lee) Snowden-Knohl of Evanston, IL; Patricia (Mark) Deal of Bloomington, IN; John N. (Darlene) Schneider of Beeville, TX; Dr. Lawrence (Phyllis) Schneider of Columbus, IN; Philip (Charlotte) Schneider of Huntingburg, IN; and Tony (Nancy) Schneider of Leesburg, SC.  Also surviving are 19 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Ruth K. Schneider will be held at 10:00 A.M., E.D.T., on Thursday, October 31, 2019, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg, Indiana, with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Military graveside rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail.  The funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Ryan Hilderbrand.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 4:00-7:00 P.M., on Wednesday, October 30th.  A parish vigil service will be held at 6:30 P.M., Wednesday, at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Heart to Heart Hospice.
