Richard P. “Rich” Meyer, age 84 of Jasper

Richard P. “Rich” Meyer, age 84 of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 3:10 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Legacy Living in Jasper, Indiana.
 
Rich was born on April 2, 1935 in Dubois County to Hilbert and Della (Bair) Meyer.   His father died when Rich was very young and his mother married Harold Englet who became a father to Rich.  He married Shirley T. Frick on April 25, 1957 in Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg, IN. She preceded him in death on February 16, 2018.
 
He was a U.S. Army Veteran who was stationed in Germany, and was a member of the American Legion Post #147 in Jasper.
 
Rich retired from Sternberg Automotive in Jasper after of 40 years of service, where he served as the manager of the parts department.  After retirement he worked for the Dubois County Solid Waste Management department.  He also volunteered for the Dubois County Museum.
 
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper, Indiana, where he had served on the church council.
 
He enjoyed gardening, camping, traveling, taking walks, and spending time with his friends and family.
 
Surviving are five children, Brian Meyer (Janet), Jasper, Julia Beck (Scott), Ireland, Brad Meyer (Cathy), Evansville, Jan Meyerholtz (Bryan), Huntingburg, and Keith Meyer (Wendy), Jasper, eleven grandchildren, Amanda Meyer, Jordan and Josh Beck, Chase, Clay, and Colton Meyer, Chelsey, Blaize, Logan and Hunter Meyerholtz, and Adonica Meyer, one brother, Don Englert, Terre Haute, IN, and three sisters, Carol Pride (Mike), Becky Gates, and Monica Lorey (Len), all of Jasper, nieces and nephews.
 
Preceding him in death beside his wife were one son, Kevin Meyer, his father, Hilbert Meyer, his mother and her husband, Harold and Della Englert, and one brother, Curtis “Curt” Meyer.
 
Funeral services for Richard “Rich” Meyer, will be held at 11 a.m on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper, Indiana with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. Pastor Jane Hillman will officiate.   The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military gravesite rites.
 
A visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2020 at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service time at the church on Saturday.
