Richard L. Schwoeppe, 89, of Ferdinand

Richard L. Schwoeppe, 89, of Ferdinand, passed away on Tuesday, February 18th at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.

Richard was born December 15, 1930 in Rockport to John and Louise (Woebkenburg) Schwoeppe. He married Evelyn Bolte on November 7, 1953 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. Richard was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War.

He was a member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 for over 60 years. He belonged to the Ferdinand Community Center. He was a member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church and belonged to its St. Joseph’s Sodality as well as the Choir for over 60 years. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening, St. Louis Cardinals Baseball, Indiana Hoosiers Basketball and Forest Park Rangers Athletics. He volunteered for many years at Meals on Wheels.

Richard is survived by his wife Evelyn Schwoeppe of Ferdinand; two sons, Steve (Linda) Schwoeppe of Ferdinand and John (Georgia) Schwoeppe of Fishers, IN.; five daughters, Margie (Dave) Stallman and Kathy (Mike) Hoppenjans all of Ferdinand, Janet (Steve) Yorlano of Gallatin, TN., Linda (Andy) McCoy of Columbia, MD. and Ann (Andy) Sonderman of Greenwood, IN.; one sister, Mary Lou (Darrell) Weisman of Ireland; seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by four brothers, Floyd, Charles, Louis and James Schwoeppe.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, February 24th in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will conduct military graveside rights.

Visitation will be Sunday from 3-8:00 PM at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and also on Monday from 7-9:30 AM at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church or Sisters of St. Benedict.
