Raymond L. "Ray" Schepers, age 82, of Jasper
Raymond L. "Ray" Schepers, age 82, of Jasper, IN, passed away at 3:36 p.m. on Monday, May 7, 2018, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
Ray was born in Jasper, Indiana, on September 27, 1935, to Raymond B. and Theresia (Seger) Schepers. He married Doris Beyke on August 17, 1963, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana. The wedding was officiated by Fr. Anthony Seger, uncle of the groom.
He was a 1954 graduate of Jasper High School.
Following graduation, Ray moved to Dayton, OH, and worked for NCR. He enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Gehlenhausen, Germany. Following his discharge in 1955, he returned to Dayton. In1962 he moved back to Jasper, and began employment with JOFCO, and married and built a home close to Precious Blood. Ray worked at bingos for the benefit of the Catholic school, served as an usher at church and served two terms on the church counsel. He worked at the summer picnics and supported the church in many ministries.
Ray retired after 39 years from JOFCO as Supervisor, but stayed on as a part time employee. He also worked for Ruxers picking up and delivering new vehicles.
He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper and the Precious Blood Men's Society.
He enjoyed watching I.U. basketball, Jasper Wildcat sports, working outdoors, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Schepers, Jasper, IN, two daughters, Christina (Keith) Bartley, Jasper, IN, Janelle (Myron) Foster, Ireland, IN, five grandchildren, Isaac, Avery, and Zeb Bartley, and Luke and Reid Foster, two sisters-in-law, Mary Marcella Schepers, Owensboro, KY, and Frances Schepers, Hopkinsville, KY, and 16 nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents are two sisters, Clara Mae Striegel, and an infant Mary Lou Schepers, and six brothers, Damian, Marcus, Elmer, and Edgar Schepers, and infants, Thomas and Jerome Schepers.
Funeral services for Raymond L. Schepers will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with entombment to follow in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper. The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military gravesite rites.
A visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2018, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, IN, and one hour before services from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic School or to a favorite charity.
