Phyllis Ann Tempel, age 67, of Greenwood, formerly of Huntingburg, passed away at 5:42 a.m., on Saturday, May 23, 2020, at Otterbein Franklin Senior Life Community in Franklin, Indiana.
She was born August 27, 1952, in Huntingburg, Indiana, to Otto Edward and Virlee Anna (Lange) Tempel; and graduated from Huntingburg High School in 1971. Phyllis retired from Dubois Wood in 2011 after 26 years of service at the factory. She was a great cook and her family always looked forward to her homemade fried chicken and oyster dressing. Her adventurous side was on full display when she visited her sister in the Big Apple. She would fearlessly navigate the NYC subway system alone or with her young son, leading to iconic experiences such as afternoon tea at the Plaza Hotel and feasting on Peking duck at the famous Peking Duck House in Chinatown. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister who died in infancy, Margaret Tempel.
She is survived by her son who was her pride and joy, Matthew Mangold of Indianapolis, IN; and six siblings, Linda Tempel of Brooklyn, NY, Melvin Tempel of Apache Junction, AZ, Judy Tempel of Greenwood, IN, Bev Tempel of Whiteland, IN, Alan Tempel of Huntingburg, IN and Doug Tempel of Tucson, AZ.
