Oakley Ray Brown, 92, of Harrodsburg, KY, passed away Saturday, May 26, at Willowdale Village in Dale, IN.
Born Aug. 20, 1925 in Elizabethtown, KY, he was the son of the late Oakley Ray and Sarah Katherine Brown. A 1943 graduate of Hopkinsville (KY) High School, he served in the Navy during World War II and attended the University of Michigan and University of Louisville before receiving an engineering degree from the University of Kentucky. He worked as a water pump salesman for several years, primarily covering rural Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia and Tennessee, then became co-owner of DSM Inc. and helped lead that company until he was 91. He loved gardening, Kentucky football and Republican politics. He moved to Harrodsburg, KY, in 1958 and in the 1960s helped form its Small Fry Football League.
He is survived by a son, Kent (Stephanie), of St Petersburg, FL, and a daughter, Sarah (Wid) Winner, of Santa Claus, IN, two brothers (Gene Brown of Dallas, TX, and David Brown of Sarasota, FL), three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Joy Winner.
He will be buried Wednesday next to his parents in the Middleburg Cemetery in Middleburg, KY. A private graveside service will be held.
