Mary Lea Jeffers, 94, of New York
On Sunday, July 24, 2022, Mary Lea Jeffers was reunited with her beloved husband, Albert, who predeceased her in 2013. She left her earthly body behind at Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, New York, at the age of 94, and went joyfully into the arms of her Savior.
Mary Lea was born October 15, 1927 in Perry County, Illinois. She was the daughter of Leslie and M. Maude (Sprenger) Miles. She had one brother, Oren Miles (deceased). She leaves behind a daughter, Adele Lynette Jeffers Everett, a son-in-law Paul W. Everett, grandsons Joel C. Everett and wife Lane (Clarksboro, NJ) and Isaac J. Everett and wife Katie (Boston, MA). She was the proud great-grandmother of Miles Everett and Nathan Everett, and the favorite aunt of Gary L. Jeffers (Evansville, IN), Robert W. Jeffers (Evansville, IN).
She met Albert L. Jeffers of Huntingburg, Indiana at a USO dance in Evansville in February 1946 after the war ended. They were married June 6, 1948. In 1953, they moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where her husband opened a patent law practice. Mary Lea worked as a secretary and graduated from Lockyear Business College in Evansville. She and Albert spent the winters in McAllen, Texas until 2010 when she moved to New York to be near her daughter.
She became President of Al-Mar Farms, Inc., a family farming corporation, in 1985, and kept the books until the age of 90. She and Albert also founded Mary Lea Jeffers Farm, a nationally recognized Standardbred breeding farm, in Flat Rock, Illinois.
Friends may call for visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m., on Friday, August 19, 2022, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A graveside service will follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg. Condolences may be shared online at www.nassandson.com
