Mary Ann Whitsitt, age 84, of Huntingburg
Mary Ann Whitsitt, age 84, of Huntingburg, passed away on Saturday evening, May 25, 2019, at her home.
She was born July 29, 1934, in Duff, Indiana, to Hugo E. and Clarissa (Bretz) Songer; and married Gilbert D. Whitsitt on September 6, 1952. Mary Ann graduated from Huntingburg High School in 1952 and farmed with Gilbert all their married life. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school for 50 years and served on the church board and various committees; was sexton and board member of Mayo Cemetery Association; and served as secretary on the Dubois County Farm Bureau, Inc. Board of Directors. Mary Ann loved farming, fishing, gardening, bowling, playing cards, singing with family, and watching sports on television. She was happiest when surrounded by family, especially her grandkids. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert D. Whitsitt, who died October 10, 2001; her parents; one brother, James Songer; and three sisters, Katherine Astrike, Janice Garrett, and three year old Betty Jean Songer.
She is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Thom) Binford of Lancaster, Kentucky and Pamela Whitsitt (Keith) Watanabe of Long Beach, California; one son, Dennis Wayne (Jane) Whitsitt of Huntingburg; one brother, Hugo “Chad” (Mae Chinn-Songer) Songer of Huntingburg; two sisters, Judith (Tom) Martindale of Huntingburg and Carol (Larry) Kieffner of Huntingburg; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth, Evan (Bridgette), Ellie, Erick, Claire, Jake (Rachel), Katie (Blake), and Lynnette; and two great-grandchildren, Mia and Gabriel.
Funeral services for Mary Ann Whitsitt will be held at 10:00 a.m., E.D.T., on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Mayo Cemetery near Duff. Pastor Mark McDaniel will officiate at the service.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 3:00-8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, May 28th; and also at church one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday morning. In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial contributions can be made to Salem United Church of Christ or Mayo Cemetery Association.
