Leo W. Schnaus, age 95, of Ireland

Leo W. Schnaus, age 95, of Ireland, Indiana, passed away at Legacy Living with family by his side at 5:03 a.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

Leo was born in Ireland, Indiana, on December 22, 1928, to Frank and Clara (Stenftenagel) Schnaus. He married Verena C. Schmitt on April 25, 1953, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana. She preceded him in death on June 16, 2021.

He was graduate of Ireland High School. He was a United States Army Veteran who served during the Korean War. He was a lifetime farmer. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana, V.F.W. Post #673, American Legion Post #147, and the Ireland K of C. Leo enjoyed hunting, farming, and gardening, and was an avid I.U. basketball fan.

He is survived by five children, Sara (Richard) Hopf, Jasper, IN, Geri (David) Snyder, Leander, TX, Karen (Gary) Haynes, Parsons, KS, Denis (Sandy) Schnaus, Jasper, IN, and Denise Schnaus, Parsons KS, nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Preceding him in death besides his wife are two children, Joseph and Donna Schnaus who both died in infancy, two sisters, Dorothy Heichelbech and Alice Helling, and three brothers, Clarence, Felix, and Amos Schnaus.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Leo W. Schnaus will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The V.F.W. Post #673 will conduct military gravesite rites. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass time at the church on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland or to a favorite charity.
