LaVerne A. Begle, 85, of Ferdinand
LaVerne A. Begle, 85, of Ferdinand, passed away on Saturday, May 13th. She was born August 9, 1937 in St.
Anthony to Clement and Catherine (Haas) Hasenour. LaVerne married Hilary Louis Begle on October 12, 1957 in St.
Anthony of Padua Church. He preceded her in death on April 4, 2023. LaVerne’s greatest joys in life were her
children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved flowers. She was a skilled seamstress who sewed
beautiful quilts and gifts for family and friends. She made fine, hand stitched doilies. She loved to cook and bake for
her family. She loved new people, experiences, and an adventure. She traveled extensively in Southeast Asia, China
and Japan. She traversed Europe by train. Her primary career began at age 15 where she was a nanny in
Indianapolis. She then waitressed at the YMCA and Schnitzelbank, and was a professional curtain seamstress at
Corbin’s in Jasper. She was a member of the Patoka Valley Quilters Guild and Ferdinand Catholic Church. LaVerne
also played in and was a soloist in the Hilary and Friends band that performed for local nursing homes. LaVerne is
survived by four sons, Mark Begle of Zionsville, Randy (Diane) Begle of Ferdinand, Dan (Bonnie) Begle of
Mooresville, NC and Brad (Mary) Begle of Chicago; three daughters, Brenda Jonas of Fishers, Karen (Ron) Bonger
of Newburgh and Diane (Bryan) Luebbehusen of Ferdinand; one sister, Kathy (Don) Kluemper of Huntingburg; twenty
two grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Laverne was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Hilary; a
grandson, Christopher Begle; four sisters, Delores Wehr, Margie Rasche, Dorothy Blessinger and Marian Hopf; three
brothers, Jerome, Allen and Robert Hasenour. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 AM in St. Ferdinand
Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday at the church from 9:00 AM until time
of services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of LaVerne and Hilary Begle to the American Cancer
Society.
