Kenneth L. “Kenny” Sanders, 78, of Shoals
Kenneth L. “Kenny” Sanders, 78, of Shoals, passed away on May 23, 2023 at Jasper Memorial Hospital due to complications of the heart and Parkinson’s Disease.
He was born at home, in Shoals, on February 2, 1945 to James Silvan and Mary Rosalie (Johnson) Sanders. Mary passed in January of 1949 of T.B. James raised his four sons, Jimmy, William, Jerry, and Kenny until his passing in 1972, while the youngest sister, Brenda (Dickens) was cared for by her maternal aunt and uncle Fern and Andy Tharp.
Mr. Sanders attended several schools in Martin County; Beech Grove for four years; Houghton for one and a half years; Old Shoals High School; and graduated from the New Shoals High School with the class of 1963.
Kenny worked for the State Highway, Jay C. Store, was a Pig Farmer, and worked for the Martin County Highway Department until retirement in February 2010.
Children born to Kenneth from his first marriage were, Kenneth Dale Sanders, Anthony Scott Sanders, and Curtis Ray Sanders.
Kenny married his second wife, Deirdre Sanders on September 18, 2004 and he inherited two bonus children, Dawn Marie (Vince) Farrell, of PA, and Noel Dale Harty of Loogootee.
He was of the Catholic Faith since 2004 and was a very proud member of St. John’s Catholic Church.
Kenny took pride in the fact that he never had a warning or any type of traffic ticket though his life.
Surviving are his loving wife, Deirdree Ann Sanders; sons, Junior (Janie) Sanders and Scott (Rhonda) Sanders; sister, Brenda (Beryl) Dickens; grandchildren, Megan, Josh, Katlyn, Audrey, Katie, Justin, and Trenton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, one son, Curtis Sanders; and granddaughter, Ashley Sanders.
Kenneth enjoyed traveling with his wife Deirdree to all 50 states and several places abroad.
Kenny was a big IU and Colts fan. He also was a big supporter of the Shoals and Loogootee basketball teams.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 26, 2023 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Loogootee, with Father J. Kenneth Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 A.M. until the service hour on Friday at the St. John’s Catholic Church, Loogootee.
