John E. Gaither, 92, of Shoals

John E. Gaither, 92, of Shoals, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at StoneBridge Health in Bedford.

Born October 3, 1930 in Shoals, Indiana, he was the son of Glen Erwin and Agnes Pearl (Cundiff) Gaither.

John graduated from Williams High School with the class of 1948 and previously worked as an Operator for Rogers Group.

He married Grace Jarlene Dant on June 9, 1957; and she survives.

John served in the United States Army.

He loved spending time with his family, farming, gardening, bird watching, wildlife, and being outdoors. John was of the Christian faith.

Surviving are his wife, Grace; children, Suzan (Jim) Garines and Jona Butler; grandchildren, Cinandra (Kenny) McCleery, Deidra (Tony) Brown, Lucas Butler, and Desirae Brown; 4 great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Mya McCleery and Collier and Mattingly Brown; sister, Esther Brock; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, John Erwin and David Lee Gaither; son-in-law, Davey Butler; sisters, Helen Tincher and Jackie Sims; and brother, David Gaither.

Funeral service will be at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at the Queen-Lee Chapel of George Funeral Care with Kevin Naillieux officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Military rites accorded by the Shoals American Legion.

Visitation will be from 2 P.M. until the service hour on Saturday at the Queen-Lee Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the organization of the donor’s choice.
