Joann (Holtzman) Philipps Helton, 88 of Owensboro
Joann (Holtzman) Philipps Helton, 88 of Owensboro passed away Thursday July 5th at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born August 8, 1929 in Fulda, Indiana to Pius & Helen (Hurm) Holtzman. She was preceded in death by her first husband Dallas Philipps on January 1, 1973. She then married Arlan Helton on August 1, 1988.
Surviving are her husband Arlan Helton of Owensboro, two sons, Michael (Jacquelyn) Philipps of Hartford, KY. and Jeffrey (Khatuna) Philipps of Dale. One daughter, Jody French (Jason) of Indianapolis. Eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and four step great-great grandchildren. Sisters, Leola (Omar) Stein of Santa Claus, Lyra Jane Knauf of St. Joseph, MI., and Margie Helming of Evansville. Step-daughters, Debbie Helton & Gail Bennett (Charles) of Scottsville, KY. Amy Hildenbrandt of Owensboro. And four step-grandchildren. Several nieces & nephews also survive. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Alice Jent.
Joann retired from General Electric in Tell City. She was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church in Owensboro. She was an avid IU basketball fan, an avid quilter and loved watching all kinds of sports. She loved to dance. She befriended neighbors everywhere she lived.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:00 AM central Monday July 9th in Saint Boniface Church in Fulda, IN. with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8:00PM central Sunday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and after 8:00 AM central Monday at the church.
