Joan Marie Hoffman, age 98, of Jasper

Joan Marie Hoffman, age 98, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, August 6, 2022. 

Joan was born on July 12, 1924, to William and Margaret (Grenough) Dudine.  She married Bernard “Bernie” Hoffman on June 12, 1947. He preceded her in death in December 1979.  

Joan spent her formative years in Indianapolis. She attended St. Joan of Arc Elementary and St. Agnes High School before returning to Jasper High School. Following graduation, Joan was a legal secretary for her father, Judge William F. Dudine.  

Joan and her husband owned and operated Hoosier Business Machines and later Hoffman Office Supply. Throughout her life, she could be seen walking daily in her neighborhood. She was a dedicated volunteer at Precious Blood Catholic Church and school in Jasper in a variety of capacities.   

Joan leaves a legacy of community involvement, devotion to her family, and her faith and love of life.  

She was a member Precious Blood Catholic Church.  

Joan is survived by her children; Don (Sandy) Hoffman, Arlington Heights, IL, Howard (Mary Anne) Hoffman, Indianapolis, IN, Mike (Cheryl) Hoffman, Jasper, IN, and Jan (Roger) Hurlbut, Carmel, IN, 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and sister; Mary Elise Schaaf, Michigan City, IN.   

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, and siblings; Agnes Keene, Marilyn Woodruff, William F. Dudine Jr, infant brother David Dudine, and a granddaughter, Sally Hurlbut.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Joan Marie Hoffman at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022, in Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana. A burial will follow in Fairview cemetery in Jasper. 

A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. service time on Friday, August 12, 2022, at Precious Blood Catholic Church.   

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial donation in Joan’s honor can do so to their favorite charity or to the Precious Blood Catholic Church Endowment. 

The family wishes to extend their sincerest appreciation to the management and staff of St. Charles Health Care Center for the care she received in their hands the past six years.
