James R. Stewart, 79, formerly of Shoals

James R. Stewart, 79, formerly of Shoals, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Legacy Living in Jasper.

Born June 3, 1944, in Shoals, Indiana, he was the son of Walter Leroy and Ethel (Hutton) Stewart.

Ronnie graduated from Shoals High School with the class of 1962 and worked at Doyle’s Lumber and National Gypsum where he retired after 33 years. He was a member of the Mt. Union Church of Christ.

He married Mary Rose Hembree on June 11, 1966 and she preceded him in death on July 31, 1997; he then married Sharon Jones Baker on June 23, 2001 and she preceded him in death on March 11, 2014.

Ronnie enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors, and staying busy on all kinds of different projects.

Surviving are his children, Steve (Misty) Stewart, of Loogootee, Brian (Cindy) Stewart, of Martinsville, and Rhonda (Cory) Gross, of Peeples Valley, AZ; grandchildren, Tyler Stewart, of Colorado Springs, CO, Jacob Stewart, of Martinsville, and Dante Gross and Emily Gross, of Peeples Valley, AZ; 2 sisters, Linda (Bud) Strahley and Janet (Keith) Parsons; brother, David (Sandy) Stewart; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Rose Hembree; wife, Sharon Jones Baker; 2 brothers, Robert “Bob” Stewart and Gary Stewart; and 2 sisters, Barbara Hall and June Raney.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at the Queen-Lee Chapel of George Funeral Care with Bro. Larry Ritter officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the service hour on Wednesday at the Queen-Lee Chapel, Shoals.
