James “Jim” O’Brian, 88, of Montgomery

James “Jim” O’Brian, 88, of Montgomery, Indiana passed away at 3:00 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2022 at his home.

He was born September 11, 1934 in Washington, Indiana to the late Walter and Dora (Clements) O’Brian.

Jim married Carol Barber on December 31, 1954 and she survives.

Jim previously owned and operated O’Brian Service Center for many years in Montgomery. He was a charter member of the Montgomery Ruritan Club and was a past club president and a past co-chairman of the Turkey Trot. He was a member of the St. Peter Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 630. Jim also was a past Town of Montgomery board member for 28 years. One of Jim’s favorite hobbies was fishing. In his later years, Jim enjoyed working outside to make his yard immaculate.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Dora O’Brian; siblings, Joseph O’Brian, Louise Donaldson and Patricia Norris; granddaughter-in-law, Amanda Kane.

Jim is survived by his wife, Carol O’Brian of Montgomery; daughters, Karen (Tom) Kane of Montgomery, Beth O’Brian and Jennifer O’Brian, both of Washington; grandchildren, Eric Kane and Jared (Bethany) Kane; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Kane, Kaleigh Kane, Grant Kane and Lilly Kane; brother, Patrick (Judy) O’Brian of Arlington, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Sudhakar Bhastati at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 21, 2022 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Montgomery. Burial will follow in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday, November 20, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church in Montgomery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
