James "Jim" J. Dittmer, age 84, of Jasper

James "Jim" J. Dittmer, age 84, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 12:10 a.m. on Sunday, February 28, 2021, in Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana, due to complications from congestive heart failure.

Jim was born in New Albany, Indiana, on  March 31, 1936, to Edger and Victoria (Jerger) Dittmer.  He married Marilyn Klein, his wife of 61 years,  on May 2, 1959, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana.

Jim was a 1954 graduate of Jasper High School, and then graduated from Lockyear Business College.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in Alaska.

Jim previously worked for Dubois County Beverage Company.  He retired from Kimball International where he worked at Stylemasters and Laminates.  During retirement he worked part time at the Ruxer Golf Course.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, where he was on the Parish Counsel, was a Youth Minister and a Eucharistic Minister, and taught religion.  He was a member of the Holy Name Society, active in the Jasper Jaycees and Optimist Clubs, and was a lifetime member of the Jasper K of C.  He was active in Jasper Little League, where he served as President and received the Herb Pittman adult service award.   He also worked with the scouting program as a Webelos leader.

Jim enjoyed spending time with family, playing golf, jigsaw puzzles, and watching sports of all levels.

Surviving are his wife Marilyn Dittmer, Jasper, IN, two daughters, Ann (Don) Hazelgrove, Bainbridge, IN, and Mary (Ron) Obermeier, Newburgh, IN, seven grandchildren, six great granddaughters, one great grandchild on the way, one daughter-in-law, Tara Dittmer, Jasper, IN, two sisters, Shirley Eckert and Nancy (Ambrose) Lampert, both of Jasper, IN.

Preceding him in death are one son, John Dittmer, one great granddaughter, Ophelia Dittmer, one brother, Jack Dittmer, two sisters, Kathleen Dittmer and Marilyn Young, one sister-in-law, Ramona Dittmer, and three brothers-in-law, Marvin Klein, John Young and Earl Eckert.

A Private Mass of Christian Burial for James "Jim" J. Dittmer will be held at  in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with entombment to follow in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper.
