James B. Knies, age 78 of St. Anthony
He married Bonnie Bieker on July 13, 1963 in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Jim was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the American Legion Post #493 in St. Anthony. He retired as a supervisor for JOFCO in Jasper after 45 years of service. Jim served on the St. Anthony Volunteer Fire Department and as a First Responder for 28 years, and continued to serve as director on the fire department for over 50 years of service. He was also a member of the St. Anthony Community Center. He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish - St. Anthony Church. Jim enjoyed camping and was a member of the Camping Hoosiers, fishing, line dancing, playing cards, gardening, and spending time with friends and family.
Surviving is his wife, Bonnie Knies of St. Anthony, one daughter, Gina Hoffman (Ron), Ferdinand, one son, Dean Knies (Tricia), Bretzville, four grandchildren: Devinn and Klayton Knies, and Bailey and Carson Hoffman, three sisters: Rosetta Hasenour, Connie Schroering, and Sharon Burger (Jerry), all of Jasper, seven brothers: Dennis Knies, St. Anthony, Albert Knies, Huntingburg, Virgil Knies (Frances), Bernard Knies (Diane), and Randall Knies (Janice) all of Celestine and PaulKnies (Carol), and Perry Knies (Jane) both of Jasper. Preceding him in death were three brothers, Ernest, Vernon, and Jerome Knies, two brother-in-laws, Delmar Schroering and Tony Hasenour and two sister-in-laws, Ruth and Cyrilla Knies.
A Mass of Christian Burial for James B. Knies will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Anthony, IN with burial to follow in St. Anthony Cemetery.
The St. Anthony American Legion Post #493 will conduct military gravesite rites. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Divine Mercy Parish or a favorite Charity.
