Irene R. Giesler, age 90 of Jasper
Irene R. Giesler, age 90 of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 12:05 a.m. on Monday, January 14, 2019 at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper, IN.
Irene was born in Schnellville, Indiana on October 23, 1928 to Bernard and Anna (Humbert) Theising. She married Sylvester Giesler on November 8, 1948 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville, IN, and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this past November. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2019.
She graduated in 1946 from Birdseye High School.
Irene worked at the Schnitzelbank Restaurant in Jasper, was a homemaker, and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, and their sodality.
She enjoyed playing softball and volleyball, canning and baking, watching her children's and grandchildren's sporting events, volunteering at the food bank and St. Vincent de Paul.
Surviving are two daughters, Martha Wehr, Jasper, Mary Witte (Michael) Zionsville, IN, seven sons, Kenneth Giesler (Sarah), Haysville, Richard Giesler (Lois), Jasper, Stanley Giesler (Nancy), Jasper, Ronald Giesler (Karla), Evansville, Gary Giesler (Kris), Jasper, Jeffrey Giesler (Angie), Jasper, and Paul Giesler (Jamie), Ferdinand, twenty one grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, two sisters, Veronica Heldman, Celestine, and Mary Ann Schmitt (Louis), Jasper, and one sister-in-law, Helen Theising, Schnellville.
Preceding her in death besides her husband were one grandchild, Kale Giesler, one son-in-law, Richard Wehr, one sister, Dorothy Seger, and one brother, Hilbert Theising.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Irene R. Giesler will be held in conjunction with her husband, Sylvester Giesler at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper with entombment to follow at Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2019 at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, and from 9:00 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. service time at Holy Family Catholic Church on Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or a favorite charity.
