Gene “Huffie” Hufnagel, age 82, of Dale
Gene “Huffie” Hufnagel, age 82, of Dale, Indiana, passed away at 2:42 p.m., on Thursday, November 14, 2019, in Dale.
He was born March 8, 1937, in Warrick County, Indiana, to Bernard and Ida (Stallman) Hufnagel. Gene worked in the smelting department of Alcoa Warrick Operations where he retired. He treasured the friendships he made throughout his years at Alcoa. Gene enjoyed visits with his Alcoa buddies and reminiscing about his days on the job. He was a member of United Steel Workers local #104, Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees, and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dale.
Gene and his wife Faye ran the raffle booth at the Dale Fall Fest for a number of years. He continued to actively support the Fest and looked forward to its arrival each year. He loved sitting out back watching the bird feeders, collecting John Deere memorabilia, drinking Coca Cola, and driving around Dale on his golf cart supervising town activities. His favorite times were spent visiting with family and friends. Gene will always be remembered for his positivity and his selflessness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Elizabeth (Reinhart) Hufnagel, who passed away in 2013; and one grandchild, Sasha Rene’ McLaughlin.
He is survived by three children, Terry (Missie) Hufnagel of Newburgh, Ind., Debra Hufnagel of Huntsville, Alabama and Rebecca McLaughlin of Dale, Ind.; five siblings, Malee (Ralph) Burress of Dale, Ind., Jerry Hufnagel of Aiken, South Carolina, Janice (Richard) Rainwaters of Aiken, South Carolina, Rick Hufnagel of Santa Claus, Ind. and Dan (Carolyn) Hufnagel of Rio, Ind.; six grandchildren, Amanda (Nathan) Forbey, Ashley Hufnagel, Tonya (Earl) Borders, Tony (Lindsey) Westenhofer, Craig (Christy) Westenhofer and Brittany (Casey) Williams; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Gene “Huffie” Hufnagel will be held at 10:00 a.m., C.S.T., (11:00 a.m., E.S.T.) on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dale with burial to follow at the Dale Cemetery. The funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Crispine Adongo.
Friends may call for visitation at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 4:00-8:00 p.m., C.S.T., (5:00-9:00 p.m., E.S.T.) on Monday, November 18th; and also one hour prior to the service, Tuesday. Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family for installation of a memorial bench at Dale Park.
