Frank J. Schmitt, age 94, of Huntingburg
Frank J. Schmitt, age 94, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 11:25 p.m., on Monday, October 14, 2019, at The Waters of Huntingburg.
He was born May 19, 1925, in Jasper, Indiana, to Albert and Katherine (Froelich) Schmitt; and married Ruth Alice Lechner on April 15, 1947, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper. Frank was a farmer; member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg; past Director of Patoka Valley Feed in Jasper; served as a paratrooper in the United States Army; and loved playing cards with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Alice Schmitt, who passed away August 31, 2013; three children, Roger Schmitt, Mark Schmitt and Karen Sue Schmitt; and six siblings, Josephine Jacobs, Mary Bresser, Vincent Schmitt, LaVern Meyer, Raymond Schmitt and Dave Schmitt.
Frank is survived by six children, Daniel (Sherry) Schmitt of Velpen, Norbert (Phyllis) Schmitt of Huntingburg, Mary Beth (Tom) Vogler of Ireland, Lee Ray (Susie) Schmitt of Washington, Diana (Dennis) Uebelhack of Otwell and Kim Davis of Huntingburg; one sister, Gloria Jean Ruhe of Brazil, Ind.; his caregiver, Emily Gray of Huntingburg; by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Frank J. Schmitt will be held at 11:00 a.m., E.D.T., Friday, October 18, 2019, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Ryan Hilderbrand. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail.
Friends may call for visitation from 9:00-11:00 a.m., Friday, at the church. Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary’s Church or a favorite charity.
