Frank J. Fischer, Sr., age 97, of Huntingburg
Frank J. Fischer, Sr., age 97, of Huntingburg, passed away at 8:42 p.m., Sunday, April 21, 2019, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.
He was born April 22, 1921, in Dale, Indiana, to Frank W. and Margaret (Klein) Fischer; and married Irma M. Becher on November 26, 1945, at the St. Meinrad Archabbey Church. Frank served in the Army as a staff sergeant during World War II. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Huntingburg V.F.W. Post #2366 and Holland American Legion Post #343. He was a truck mechanic and also worked as an auto mechanic at the Abbey. Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Irma M. Fischer, who died December 17, 2003; one grandson, Jeremy Edele; three brothers, Bob, John and James Fischer; and three sisters, Margaret Eble, Bernice Fleck, and Virginia Arvin.
He is survived by three daughters, Geraldine Hastings of Brownsburg, Sue (Clyde) Kissling of Holland, and Glenda (Mike) Edele of St. Henry; five sons, Ron (Vicki) Fischer of St. Henry, Steve (Jeni) Fischer of Jasper, Al (Janessa) Fischer of Fairfield, Ohio, Randy (Sharon) Fischer of Holland, and Frank (Joan) Fischer, Jr. of Bloomington; by (24) grandchildren, (41) great-grandchildren and (3) great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., E.S.T., on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Huntingburg V.F.W. and Holland American Legion.
Friends may call for visitation from 2:00-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, April 24th, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A parish rosary will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
