Dr. Donald Edward Kerr, 71, of Shoals
Dr. Donald Edward Kerr, 71, of Shoals, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at his residence.
Born January 23, 1953, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of Dr. Charles M. and Dortha (Dobbs)
Kerr.
Dr. Kerr graduated from McDonogh School in Maryland in 1971, earned his Bachelors of Science from
Indiana University in 1976, and his Doctorate from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines
in 1981.
He married Teri Denny on May 27, 1978, and she survives.
Dr. Kerr worked as a medical doctor in Shoals for over 30 years, retiring in 2016, and served as the
Martin County Coroner for several years.
He enjoyed farming, horseback riding, hiking, camping, and participating in the Catfish Festival, where
he was the Grand Marshall in 2016. He was a founding member of the Cub Scout Pack 491 and the Boy
Scout Troop 495, and a member of the Dover Hill Christian Union Church.
Surviving are his wife, Teri; four children, Sally (Shane) Petty, Tom (Ashley) Kerr, Kathy (Adam)
Overton, and Dorthy (Ian) Perrotte; six grandchildren, Aaron and Akai Perrotte, Mason and Austin Kerr,
and Caleb and Hannah Overton; brother, Charles I. (Kathy McDonald) Kerr; and several nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Michael Kerr.
Memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Friday, July 19, 2024 at the Dover Hill Christian Union
Church.
Visitation will be from 2 P.M. until the service hour at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Queen-Lee Chapel of George Funeral Care, Shoals.
