Douglas K. “Corky” Lorey, age 73

Douglas K. “Corky” Lorey, age 73, of Celestine, Indiana, passed away surrounded by family at 4:25 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper, Indiana. 

Doug was born in Huntingburg, Indiana, on October 26, 1950, to Linus and Anna Lee (Hardin) Lorey. He married Norma Smith on December 31, 1987. He was a 1968 graduate of Dubois High School. 

In his earlier years, he was the drummer for “The Signatures.” He was a truck driver then owned and operated Corky’s restaurant alongside his wife for 15 years. Most recently, he worked for Uebelhor and Sons. He was a member of St. Celestine Catholic Church – St. Isidore Parish in Celestine, Indiana. Doug enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.   

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Norma Lorey, Celestine, Angie (Myron) Schneider, Shelbyville, KY, Courtney (Jim) Esarey, Santa Claus, one brother, Larry (Judy) Lorey, Jasper; four sisters: Barbara (Bob) Wilhite, Alfordsville; Lila (Allen) Seger, Huntingburg; Kim (Linda) Lorey, Evansville; Paula (Jack) Rogers, Jasper; five grandchildren: Jace (Kaitlin) Schneider, Bailey (Ellen) Schneider, and Olivia Schneider, Riley and Reegan Esarey, two great-grandchildren; Katherine and Cohen Schneider. 

Preceding him in death are his parents and brother, Tony (Sally) Lorey. 

A Mass of Christian Burial for Douglas K. “Corky” Lorey will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine, Indiana, with burial at a later date. A visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel.
