Dora H. Bickwermert, age 96 of Jasper
Dora H. Bickwermert, age 96 of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 in the Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper, Indiana.
Dora was born in Ireland, Indiana, on June 15, 1923, to Leo B. and Cecelia (Hopf) Schuler. She married Alva Bickwermert on May 1, 1945, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana. He preceded her in death on June 19, 1983.
You might remember her cleaning the halls of the Metzger building, as she was a housekeeper for many years in Jasper, or eating her food at Beck's Restaurant, where she used to cook, or gliding across the dance floor with her husband, Alva, to the waltz.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Jasper, the St. Ann's Society, and a past member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
She enjoyed doing crafts, crocheting, and cooking, as she was known for her apple dumplings and ribble soup.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Waters, and companion, Ernest Goodman, and Rose (Joe) Austin, both of Portersville, IN, one grandson, three sisters, Leola Heeke, Dubois, IN, Arlene Sermersheim, Jasper, IN, and Julie (Kenneth) Persohn-Kunkler, St. Anthony, IN.
Preceding her in death besides her husband, are one daughter, Judith Ann Bickwermert, who died in infancy, two sons, Alva Bickwermert Jr, who died in infancy, and Charles Bickwermert, one son-in-law, Allen Waters, two sisters, Venita Fleck and Lou Anna Schuler, and four brothers, Ivo, Remus, Lloyd, and Thomas Schuler.
A Mass of Christian Burial Dora H. Bickwermert will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 13, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Ireland, Indiana.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 until the 11:00 a.m. service time at the church on Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Dubois County Humane Society or to the wishes of the family.
