Donald E. “Don” Burgan, 72, of Shoals

Donald E. “Don” Burgan, 72, of Shoals, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023.

Born February 2, 1951, in Washington, IN. He was the son of George and Loretta (Hopf) Burgan.

Donald was a graduate of Jasper High School with the class of 1969 and then attended auto diesel school in St. Louis where he received his technical certification. He married Marianne Gail Lewis on September 2, 1972, and she survives. He worked at the Engine Exchange, HRJ Automotive as Semi Truck Fleet Foreman, and Kimball International as Maintenance Foreman where he retired after over 45 years.  After retirement, he worked on his brother-in-law’s (Ernie Lewis) farm.

Donald was a former member of the Jasper Moose Lodge, and a former member of the Lost River Fire Department.  He loved to hunt, golf, mow grass, play softball, and spend time with his grandchildren. He was an avid woodworker and mechanic as well as an award-winning pie baker.  Don, along with family members, began to build his dream home in 2000.  Together, Don and Marianne made Lake Andrew in Martin County their official home in 2004.  He and Marianne loved where they lived.

Surviving are his wife, Marianne; children, Travis (Allyson) Burgan, Brandi (Timothy) Crow, and Chad (Casey) Burgan; grandchildren, Andrew and Tyler Burgan, Gabriel and Keira Thomason, Madison and Emily Gist, and Chase Burgan; siblings, Marie (Wally) Moses, Ron (Lou) Burgan, Rose (Wayne) Kreilein, Barb (John) Miller, and Marsha (Stan) Seifert; brothers-in-law, Daniel (Alice) Lewis, Ernie (Jill) Lewis, and Martin Lewis; sisters-in-law, Cindy Lewis-Carithers, Melissa (Troy) Pride, and Karen Lewis; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father in-law, Leroy and Hazel Lewis; siblings, Shirley Wessel and Brian Burgan (in infancy); brothers-in-law, David Lewis, Charlie Keller, and Ed Carithers; and sister-in-law, Marcia Lewis.

Private family service was held. A celebration of life will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shoals Indiana, 11:00 am, on July 22nd, with burial at Waggoner’s Chapel.
