Daniel I. Egler, age 88, of Jasper
Daniel I. Egler, age 88, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 4:10 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2020, at home.
Daniel was born in Ferdinand, Indiana, on December 21, 1931, to Eckhart and Catherine (Blume) Egler. He married Naomi Gehl on June 30, 1955, in St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Anthony, Indiana. Daniel was a United States Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War Era. He retired as a mechanic and wrecker driver for Ruxer Ford, where he had worked for over 40 years. He was a founding member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, where he sang in the church choir, and was also a member of the V.F.W. Post #673. He enjoyed playing guitar and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are his wife, Naomi Egler, Jasper, IN, two sons, John Egler, Folsom, CA, Robert Egler, Jasper, IN, five grandchildren, Jennifer Egler, Elizabeth Egler, David Egler, Eric Frandsen and Eve Zink, one sister, Shirley Smith, Ferdinand, IN, two brothers, Louis Egler, Florence, KY, and Francis (Jane) Egler, Ferdinand, IN. Preceding him in death are two sons, Vincent and Dean Egler, one brother, Lloyd Egler, and two sisters, Rose Mary Messmer and Janice Jones.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Daniel I. Egler will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 17, 2020, in Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with entombment to follow in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper, Indiana. The V.F.W. Post #673 will conduct military grave site rights. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time at the church on Monday.
