Clarence Othmar Hurst, age 86, of Huntingburg
Clarence Othmar Hurst, age 86, of Huntingburg, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2020, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.
He was born February 15, 1934, in Ireland, Indiana, to Benedict and Frances (Sander) Hurst; and married Mildred Bleemel on August 29, 1959, in Jasper. Clarence served in the United States Army and worked for 48 years as a truck driver for J. Winkler & Sons. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg; enjoyed volunteering at church; and spending time outdoors gardening and working on his lawn. Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Hurst, who passed away on April 9, 2006; his parents; one son, Paul Hurst; one brother, Edward Hurst; two sisters, Helen Jacob and Marilyn Hile; and by two infant siblings.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan (Richard) Marshall of Bloomington and Debra (Todd) Voegerl of Jasper; one son, Michael Hurst of Muncie; three sisters, Betty Berth of Jasper, Catherine (Dennis) Buechlein of Jasper, Dorothy (Vernon) Mehringer of Jasper; one brother, August (Gail) Hurst of Jasper; and by six grandchildren, Benjamin, Sarah, Hannah and Jacob Marshall, Autumn and Jordan Voegerl.
Funeral services for Clarence Hurst will be held at 10:00 a.m., E.D.T., Monday, August 24, 2020, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. The funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Biju Thomas. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail.
Friends may call for visitation from 2:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 23rd, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg where a rosary prayer vigil will be held at 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to either The Saint Meinrad Archabbey or St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
