Bradley J. Hanner, 70, of Holland

Bradley J. Hanner, 70, of Holland, Indiana passed away at his home on Sunday, January 12, 2025, with his wife and son by his side.   

Brad was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, on February 25, 1954, to the late Clelland J. Hanner and Mary Alice Bledsoe Hanner.  He married Emily O’Bryan on July 12, 1997. 

Brad graduated from Turkey Run High School in 1972 where he played quarterback on the football team, basketball and baseball.  He went on to play football at The University of Evansville where he earned his bachelor’s degree in education in 1976 and a master’s degree in education from Ball State University in 1978.  

Brad was a teacher and football coach at Blackford, Lawrenceburg and North Posey before he came to Southridge High School in Huntingburg, Indiana.  He coached the Raiders from 1994-2004 and is credited for putting Southridge Raider football on the map.  He took the Raiders to a Class 2A State Runner-up title and was named a North-South all Star Assistant Coach in 1999 and 2003. 

If you knew Brad, you have a memory of Brad.  He brought humor to his daily life and his ability to light up a room was contagious. He has lifelong friends from every phase of life and was dedicated to them all. He revolved his life around football, family, the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and making his grandchildren laugh. Brad loved fishing, mixing a good rub to smoke his favorite meat, calling to check up on old friends, listening to music and drinking a cold one. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, coaches and players. 

He is survived by his wife, Emily, of 27 years, his three children, daughter, Melissa Kirk and her husband, Jon of Noblesville, daughter, Amber Cripe and her husband, Jake of Jamestown, son, Noah of Holland and four grandchildren, Lillie and Logan Cripe and Jackson and Macy Kirk; one sister, Barb Earl (Neil) of Bloomingdale; two brothers, Gary Hanner (Mary) of Rockville, and Joe Hanner (Linda) of Marshall; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Theresa O’Bryan; sister-in-law, Erin (Steve) Rust of Huntingburg, sister-in-law, Carrie (Steve) D'Esposito of Brownstown, brother-in-law, Ted (Jan) of Huntingburg, IN and many nieces, nephews and extended family.   

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James O. Hanner; and nephews, Alexander Hanner and Ross D’Esposito. 

Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 12:00 -3:00 p.m., E.S.T., at Rainey Funeral Home, 109 W. Hammond Street, Dale, IN.  There will be a celebration of life immediately following for close friends and family. Brad's celebration of life will continue at the Holland American Legion Post 343, at 4:30 p.m., E.S.T. Special thanks to the first responders at the Holland Volunteer Fire Department and the medical professionals who cared for Brad.  Memorials can be made to the Holland Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 329, Holland, IN 47541. Rainey Funeral Home in Dale has been entrusted with handling the arrangements.
