VAU Fallen Heroes Memorial Opening Ceremony Taking Place on Saturday

Huntingburg- The City of Huntingburg will host an opening ceremony for the Veterans & Athletes United Fallen Heroes Memorial Wall Display on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. at the 4th Street entrance to Market Street Park. 

The ceremony will include remarks from Mayor Steve Schwinghamer, local elected officials, local Marine Eric Evitts, and a concluding prayer. The ceremony is open to the public and everyone is invited to attend.

The VAU Fallen Heroes Memorial Wall Display will be on display in Huntingburg on Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30. The memorial is composed of 7,040 dog tags that create an image of the American flag. It also has 50 gold stars to honor Gold Star families nationwide. The flag is built and funded by veterans. It has travelled to 50+ locations nationwide since 2018. Donations to the project support Gold Star family organizations with a mission to build a national memorial in Washington, D.C.
