Upcoming Road Closures, Pride Festival, and Heart of Jasper Events
The Jasper Board of Public Works and Safety met on this very rainy Tuesday morning at Council
Chambers with a full agenda. A representative of Messmer Mechanical received approval for a
street closure on Jackson between 7 th and 6 th Street for work being done on the Dubois County
Annex Building. The closure will be on Tuesday, January 23, at about 9 am for 5 to six hours.
Mike Gudorf of Gudorf Plumbing received approval for a road closure, also on Jackson Street,
between 13 th and 14 th Streets. The closure will be for two days from January 22-23, weather
permitting, for sewer repair that is required at 1338 Jackson Street. Since it will be during
weekdays, it will impact traffic, particularly for schools.
Dubois County Pride received approval for a 2024 Pride festival slated for Friday, June 26, from
12-6 at Dave Buehler Plaza. There were no protestors last year, and safety precautions that
were in place were very effective and will be a part of this year’s planning. While there are
other more spacious locations, the Riverwalk provides more visibility for the event and the
approximately 1200 attendees would likely visit downtown businesses.
Kate Schwenk from Heart of Jasper announced multiple upcoming events that were approved
by the board this morning. On Saturday, February 10 on the square, the Pamper my Princess
Party will include horse and carriage rides, hair and nail stations, and a Teddy Bear mobile truck,
culminating in a free screening of Frozen at the Astra. Music on Main will bring live music on
Saturdays from 11-1 in April and May, Downtown Chowdown will return for five dates at
Riverwalk Plaza, and Shop and Sip will also return from May through December on the third
Wednesday of the month. The Mingle on Main fundraiser will be held on Friday, October 4,
which will also require closure of the square for the event.
In other news, the Street Department reminded residents that leaf trucks are no longer coming
by, but leaves can be picked up with yard waste as long as they are in a container. In addition,
the Dubois Strong contract was renewed for 2024, showing a continued focus on economic
development for the county.
