Underage Intoxicated Driver Totals Car, Receives Five Charges

Jasper - Early Saturday morning, a 19-year-old was charged with five counts after wrecking in several locations.


Early Saturday morning, Jasper Police received multiple calls in reference to a reckless driver on the north side of the city. Officers located the vehicle wrecked in landscaping at Express Car Wash. The vehicle was totaled and the driver had left the scene.

The driver, later identified as Paola Torres Monroig, 19, Jasper, was later found nearby. Monroig was transported to Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center, where she tested a .149% blood alcohol level, nearly twice the legal limit.

Later, officers located two additional crash sites on Portersville Road and Manor Drive.

Monroig was charged with OWI Endangerment, OWI, Driving Never Receiving a License, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Minor Consuming.
