Two County Tornado Sirens Failed to Sound During Monday's Test, EMA Warns

DUBOIS COUNTY -- A tornado warning siren in Holland and another in Ferdinand failed to activate during the monthly siren test on Monday, according to the Dubois County Emergency Management Agency.

Federal Field Services have been notified and will come out to inspect the siren.  Until then, officials want residents to be aware that the sirens are not working.  The EMA encourages residents in the impacted areas to ensure their weather radios have fresh batteries and are in working order to notify you of a potential severe weather threat.

FERDINAND ..... As a result of the monthly testing of the Dubois County emergency sirens July 1, 2019, we have found that the northside siren in Ferdinand is currently not in service. Federal Field Services have been notified of the issue and they will be inspecting the siren and working to repair it. 

John Hoppenjans, Chief of Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department; Chris James, Ferdinand Town Manager and Tammy Humbert, Director of Dubois County Emergency Management, are encouraging all residents of Ferdinand to be aware of the problem and to verify that their SAME weather radios have fresh batteries and are ready to notify you of any severe weather coming to the area. 

We also encourage ALL citizens of Dubois County to do the same as the Sirens in the county are put in place as a back up to notify residents of threatening weather that is approaching. Sirens are not to replace your own notification process such as a NOAA weather radios.
