JASPER -- Organizers of the 2021 Jasper Strassenfest say they are making plans to go forward with an event this year.

The rising COVID numbers forced organizers to cancel last year’s celebration.

“The decision to cancel the 2020 Jasper Strassenfest was no doubt the toughest decision the Strassenfest Committee has ever had to make in the 16 years I’ve been on the committee”, says 2021 festival chairman, Bob Bleemel.

This year’s theme is “Jasper Strassenfest - A Cultural Experience.”  It pays tribute to the completion of the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center in downtown Jasper.

Jim and Pat Thyen have been named this year’s Strassenfest Grand Marshalls.  They’ll preside over the 2021 festival and lead the parade on Sunday.

The committee is also moving forward with a half-pot ticket fundraiser for this year’s Strassenfest, with ticket sales beginning in late June or early July, with the final drawing to be held on August 11th.  A percentage of the net proceeds from the half-pot will go towards the Dubois County Scholastic Excellence Award Scholarship fund to benefit Dubois County students attending VU Jasper, as well as future improvements to the Jasper Strassenfest.
