Jasper- After Thursday’s Opening Ceremonies for the 45th Jasper Strassenfest, festivities continue this evening.
Strassenfest was greeted with children’s dances, cheers, and welcomings by mayors, committee members, and the Strassenfest Court.
“Now in accordance with the authority vested in me by the constitution of the state of Indiana, I, Jasper Mayor Dean Vonderheide, proclaim August third through the sixth to be set aside for the forty-fifth annual Strassenfest,” Jasper Mayor Dean Vonderheide said at the ceremonies.
Also in attendance was Pfaffenweiler Bürgermeister, translated to mayor, Lukas Mahler. Mahler lit the Sister Cities Lantern, symbolizing the friendship between the cities of Jasper and Pfaffenweiler.
“And on this beautiful day of Strassenfest,” Mahler said prior to the lighting, “It will be my great honor to light this lantern, symbolizing the great bond between Jasper and Pfaffenweiler. God Bless these two cities; God bless our friends on either side of the ocean; and ladies and gentlemen, God bless America!”
The parade to the Bier Garten began shortly after, led by State Senator and Jasper native, Mark Messmer.
