Stewart Hotel Returns as Apartments

Jasper- The Stewart Hotel sits on the corner of Main and 8th Streets in Jasper.

Opened in the late 1800s, the hotel has seen expansions and changes throughout its history. Most recently, it was the site of Thom and Demotte Law Offices.

“The upper levels looked like they had been in the 1970s,” said Ruger Kerstiens of Kerstiens Homes and Designs. Thom and Demotte were only occupying the first level of the complex and the upper levels had not been used since their purchase of the building in the 1970s.

After being purchased by Kerstiens, the century old building will be transforming into an apartment complex. The complex will offer 1 and 2 bedroom units that feature both gas and electric. Each unit comes equipped with washer and dryer hookups.

The top floor will feature Air B-n-Bs that will be rented for weekend or vacation getaways, like Strassenfest. Each Air B-n-B will feature a different theme inside.

The constructors were able to use some of the interior bricking in a few units.

The exterior of the building will remain mostly unchanged. The tannish-yellow brick work will remain along with the black awning over the main entrance of the information center. 

Located just a few blocks from Jasper’s Downtown Square, the Stewart Hotel Apartments are walking distance from many of Jasper’s merchants and restaurants.

According to Kerstiens, the Stewart Hotel Apartments will open in early 2023.
