State Senator Messmer Shares thoughts on Fostering Safe Communities

Local Sources- District 48 State Senator Mark Messmer shared his thoughts on fostering safe communities.

As the state's leading law-enforcement agency, the Indiana State Police (ISP) offers assistance to nearly every law enforcement agency across the state. Yet, data shows our state troopers are among the lowest paid law enforcement officers in Indiana. That's why I supported more than $95 million to substantially increase pay for ISP.

The General Assembly also allocated $10 million for the Regional Mental Health Facility Grants, which will work in tandem with a new law that will allow courts and law enforcement officers to refer arrestees to mental health services.

The new state budget also provides $60 million to programming to help improve outcomes in our juvenile justice programs.

As your state senator, I will continue to support law enforcement and improvements to our justice system, which foster safe communities.
