Springs Valley High School Hall of Fame includes legendary IN basketball coach Jim Jones

The Springs Valley Education Foundation is excited to announce the 2024 Springs Valley Hall of Fame induction ceremony, which is set to take place on Friday, July 12th, at the French Lick American Legion banquet hall. This year's honorees are former coach and educator Jim Jones along with basketball SV sports archivist and historian Roy "Junior" Flick. The free event will begin at 6 p.m. with a meet and greet, followed by the induction ceremony at 7 p.m.  WUME’s Dave Dedrick and SV graduate will be the Master of Ceremonies.

Jim Jones embarked on his professional career in 1959 at Springs Valley High School after graduating from Oolitic High School and Indiana University. Throughout his illustrious career, he also coached at Princeton and Terre Haute North, achieving an impressive 700 wins and earning a place in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. During his tenure at Springs Valley, Jones secured five sectional titles and one regional title. Notably, he coached former NBA coach and sports analyst Jerry Reynolds and NBA legend Larry Bird. Jones returned to Springs Valley in 2012 to lead the Hawks for two more seasons, culminating in his 700th win and solidifying his legacy as the 10th winningest coach in Indiana basketball history.

Since the consolidation of French Lick and West Baden schools in 1957, Junior Flick has meticulously documented every Springs Valley boys' basketball game, and since the 1980s, the varsity girls' games as well. His unwavering dedication over seven decades has preserved the rich history of Springs Valley basketball through extensive scrapbooks and flyers, all without the aid of a computer. Flick's legacy is one of unparalleled commitment, ensuring that the memories and achievements of countless players and teams are forever remembered. n high school Junior made the number 33 popular before Larry Bird did 20 years later. Also his high school coach was Marvin Wood of the famed Milan 'Hoosiers' team.

The Springs Valley Education Foundation Hall of Fame aims to honor individuals who have made significant contributions of time, ideas, expertise, or finances to the advancement of academics, arts, or athletics at Springs Valley Community Schools. Additionally, the Hall of Fame recognizes graduates who enhance the prestige of Springs Valley Schools through notable contributions in their professions and society.

This ceremony marks the Foundation's first Hall of Fame event since 2019 and is part of the Springs Valley Alumni Weekend celebration.
