Southwest Dubois Students Continue to Impress

The Southwest Dubois County School Corporation held their regular board meeting on Thursday night, praising the remarkable achievements of its students. 

In the SWD Highlight, Southwest High School Business Professionals of America students were noted for their accomplishments at the regional competition at Ivy Tech on December 8. Thirty- eight of the forty-eight BPA students that competed will be advancing to the state level in March. Three students will also be recognized at the state competition in March for their Statesman Torch Awards, which were given for extraordinary citizenship and community service. 

Elementary students received accolades for some of their outstanding achievements as well. Holland Elementary students attended a showing of Wild Robot at Jasper’s Astra Theater as a PBIS reward celebration. Huntingburg Elementary also rewarded 721 of its students with a glow party for reaching their behavior goals. 

Southridge High School celebrated its All-Conference Fall Sports athletes in football, soccer, volleyball, cross country, and tennis. Six Southridge students returned from BPA Regionals with first place wins in their categories. Four students were also recognized as IASP Rising Stars of Indiana for academic achievement. 

In other business, the board approved the first reading of the NEOLA policy updates. They also consented to Superintendent Mehaffey’s request for the School Corporation to apply for all Federal Title Grants and Indiana Department of Education grants for which they are eligible, as well as any other appropriate grants, for 2025. In addition, a resolution was approved to transfer the balance of the 0900 Curricular Materials fund to the 0101 Educational fund. 

Southwest Dubois County School Corporation regular board meetings are open to the public and are held on the third Thursday of the month from 5:30-6:30. The SWDCS board room is located at 105 W Sunset Dr., Huntingburg IN.
