Southwest Dubois Student Accolades Pour In
Southwest Dubois students are proving once again that they are a competitive force to be
reckoned with.
The Southwest Dubois County School Corporation held an efficient meeting, where they paid
special attention to some remarkable student achievements. Southridge High School student
athletes have been hard at work, as the Boys Basketball team set a new school record with 20
wins. At the Scholastic Contest in Oakland City, SHS medaled in multiple categories, and the
school also boasts a team of JAG State Title winners. Last month’s production of Anastasia
successfully completed its four-performance run. The Choir and Ensemble received Gold and
Gold with Distinction at State, and the BPA State teams also brought home multiple awards.
At Southridge Middle School, the Wrestling team is on their way to the Conference Meet
following a season at 21-0. The Robotics Team achieved a 5 th place finish in the Tell City
Competition, which was their strongest finish to date.
At Holland Elementary, over 88% of third graders received passing IREAD scores.
Huntingburg
Elementary School IREAD-3 assessments saw a 3% increase in passing scores over the previous
year. In the SWD Highlight of the month, the board heard about a special project completed by
Huntingburg’s 4 th graders. After reading Number the Stars, students participated in the Butterfly
Project, which pays tribute to the children of the Holocaust by reading personal stories and
creating art installations.
In other business, the board passed a motion to approve the low bid of $298,500 by Copper
Ridge Contracting to undertake the infrastructure upgrades at Huntingburg Elementary School.
The board also passed a motion to award the football turf and track replacement contract at
Southridge High School to the low bidder at a cost of $898,500. The football turf has already
been there for fourteen years, exceeding its life expectancy of ten to twelve years.
Southwest Dubois County School Corporation regular board meetings are open to the public
and are held on the third Thursday of every month from 5:30-6:30. The SWDCS boardroom is
located at 105 W Sunset Dr. in Huntingburg IN, just across from the high school.
