Some Dubois County Retailers Confused Over FDA Smoking Directive Issued Thursday

DUBOIS COUNTY -- Some Dubois County retailers are scrambling to comply with a sudden directive yesterday from the FDA, announcing the federal smoking age was being raised to 21 effective immediately.

Multiple national news outlets have reported the new law would take effect in 2020.  The confusion prompted some local retailers to reach out to the WITZ Newsroom for answers.

A spokesperson for the FDA tells our David Shepherd the new law is effective immediately, not in 2020.
