Sectional Game Evacuated after Shooting Call

Tell City- Tuesday’s sectional quarter final between Forest Park and Crawford County had to be postponed due to a false school shooting alert.

With roughly fourteen minutes to tip off, law enforcement officials alerted fans and school officials in attendance to evacuate Tell City Jr. Sr. High due to a tip about an active shooter. In a press release from Tell City Police, the call came in to central dispatch from a third party law enforcement official in Illinois.

The official claimed a caller in Tell City alerted them that an active shooter was at a school. This message was relayed to Perry County Central Dispatch who then alerted Tell City PD. Everyone but law enforcement was evacuated as officers went room to room searching for a threat. No threat was found and officials noted no concerns. No arrests were noted in the release and there is no indication of charges on the Perry County Sheriff's Office website.

Detectives located the original Tell City caller, who is only being identified as an adult male resident. Detectives said information given by the caller was inaccurate and there is no believed threat to the schools or community.

Tell City-Troy Township Schools say there will be an increased law enforcement presence at tonight’s game between Forest Park and Crawford County. Tip off is scheduled for 6:30 pm est.
