By: Corbin Lingenfelter, News Director
Dubois Co.- All Dubois County School Districts are returning to session on Wednesday.
The new year comes with changes for one local school, Huntingburg Elementary.
According to an email sent to parents, there are new dismissal procedures for students who are picked up. Parents can begin lining up in the east parking lot of the school no sooner than 2:45 pm est for Kindergarten through 5th grade students. The procedure is as follows:
- You will enter from Sunset, pulling into the parking lot next to the football field and swinging around to face back towards Sunset. Then, you will park and hold until students are dismissed at 2:55 (see diagram below).
- Grades K-2 car drivers will line up in the first two lanes, and grades 3-5 car drivers will line up in the second two lanes. The K-2 lanes will be dismissed one at a time and they will pick up their students outside door #15. Teachers will continue to use the numbers in the cars to match the numbers with the students tags to release students.
- Then, the next two lanes for grades 3-5 will be released, and those students will exit door #2. The same process mentioned above will take place with numbers/tags.
- If you have a K-2 and a 3-5 student, teachers will have the 3-5 student meet your younger student to dismiss together at door #15.
Transportation changes for students must be made before 2:00 pm by calling the school’s main office. Students will not be picked up during the times of 2:45 pm and 3:15 pm. Any student needing to be picked up during those times must go to the car rider line.
Students attending Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools will see no change to pick up and drop offs according to GJCS Superintendent Dr. Tracey Lorey.
“We’re very excited about the start of the new school year,” Dr. Lorey said, “Our staff has worked hard to prepare our classrooms and our buildings so we’re ready for students to arrive tomorrow.”
New this year for GJCS is a daycare option for staff at GJCS. Little Wildcats, as Dr. Lorey calls it, will open on September 5th. The care is for staff only.
Also new for GJCS is a new food service provider, Sodexo.
“That’s going to bring some new changes to our students,” said GJCS Marketing and Communications Director Gillian Blessinger, “They’ll have some different types of meal options.”
For new menu items, students will have an opportunity to sample them prior to it being on the menu, according to Blessinger.
Southeast Dubois also saw changes ahead of this academic year. Former Girls Basketball coach Tony Hasenour assumed the role of Athletic Director and Jacob Berg was named his replacement. Hasenour also left the Social Studies department as part of his new role.
“I feel like the transition has been smooth,” said Southeast Dubois Superintendent Dr. Jamie Pund.
All Dubois County Schools return to session Wednesday, August 9th.
